Soup Ste. Marie

On Friday March 11th YouLaunch and Social Entrepreneurship Evolution hosted the second annual Soup Ste. Marie at 180 Projects. Over sixty community members attended to listen to six great business pitches relating to social entrepreneurship:

Patrick Evans presented The Sault Tool Library, an initiative to give all community members access to the means to improve their physical environment while also allowing for learning and creative expression.

Patti McGonigal presented the Student Saver Shop, an on-campus initiative to assist students in finding affordable living materials.

Kyle Jewett presented the Graffiti Art Workshop, a workshop series centered around collaboratively developing and finishing graffiti style mural art.

Brandan Normal presented Algoma Swift Watch – Swift Community Days, a collaborative project between citizens, and agencies to promote awareness and understanding of a threatened bird species found in Sault Ste. Marie.

Jennifer Lalonde presented Community Housewarming Social, a fundraiser to help individuals at local shelters by providing supplies for starting their new home after leaving the shelter.

Northern Hoot presented the Ambassador for Change Program, a program that will illuminate challenging issues through storytelling.

After all the pitches were presented, community members were allowed one vote each to decide a winner. After the votes were tallied, Northern Hoot and their ambassador for change program (more information on that here) was crowned the 2016 champion! Northern Hoot won close to $600 for the project.

The The Soup Ste. Marie 2016 Organizing Committee would like to extend many thanks to Gore Street Café and Café Natura for providing delicious soup, and 180 Projects for providing space for the event.
